Australian Grand Prix

Partnered Project

Challenge

To transition the Australian Grand Prix to renewable energy to power the race events. The challenge was to create an experience, artefact, or system to help achieve their Sustainability targets of Net Zero by 2030, leaving a legacy of positive change, prioritise fan wellbeing, enrich local communities and improve air quality, whilst keeping in mind the Live Fast marketing strategy, A lifestyle, exciting, loud for everyone.

Approach

Analysing the Grand Prix’s sustainability strategies and impact data revealed event operations were an area AGP could implement changes to reduce their footprint. Applying systems thinking to assess the impacts on the local community and environment, including researching innovative technologies and Parks Victoria’s Master Plan for Albert Park Lake improvements, resulted in creative solutions.

Outcome

An elevated user experience combining F1, fashion, sustainability, and innovative technologies to power the event highlighting the F1’s ambition towards their Net Zero Target. The experience enables users to learn about F1’s Sustainability strategy, whilst actively creating their own power as they strut down Power Avenue lighting up the runway lights. Inspiring positive change through meaningful engagement that is captured in the photo booth at the end of the runway. Via social media, it showcases world class AGP event engaging a broader younger audience. The AGP can donate the runway to Albert Park Lake as a permanent footpath accessible to everyone to experience and generate energy for the community with every step, leaving a legacy of positive change. The fashion runway is created using Pavegen technology (UK) that harnesses energy from walking. POWER AVENUE PDF
